Frail hands turned the door knob to open the door before pushing it back to close it. The blonde bombshell made her way to the couch, throwing her keys on the kitchen table before flopping down on it with a big sigh. Well job hunting was a bust. She laid her head back on the top of the couch, her eyes closed, the negativity of her thoughts surging through her entire body, causing her to be more tired than she actually was. "No. No negativity, Thalia. You have to stay positive." She reminded herself, grudgingly sitting upright as she searched her purse for the address. She pulled the piece of scrap lined paper out, just looking at it. Her sky blue eyes stared intently at the paper, almost burning a hole through it with the intensity of her concentration. Her mind was void of all other thoughts as the letters and the numbers danced through her mind over and over again.
A week ago, this twenty year old girl would have jumped at this opportunity, but now that luck was on her side, everything suddenly felt too real. She felt like she was suffocating, and the pain- although a distant memory,- felt even more unbearable. The nightmares came every night, each one worst than the last. It seemed like it was just yesterday that she had first met Kaydn. She remembered it all so clearly. At private schools, parties was like a daily routine, and she wasn't one to pass up a good party- especially if she was a cheerleader. It's almost a law for all cheerleaders to attend parties. They had no say in it. Whether or not you were invited, you still had to make an appearance. That's just how things worked. So, that night, she showed up at the party, fashionably late with a couple of other cheerleaders, letting the guys hit on them and bring them their drinks. She'd smile politely and say thank you before chugging the whole cup down. Hey, a party wasn't a party unless you were, at least, a little tipsy.
She had been playing strip poker with a couple of guys, as usual, and was the queen of poker faces, looking innocent and clueless. She was an all time champion, obviously, but the guys would play and try to beat her anyway. Until Kaydn came along to challenge her. It was a good game, and it kept everyone on their toes. And for the first time in her life, she was defeated. She wasn't happy about it, but she respected him for being able to beat her, and accepted the fact that she had lost the bet. And this was not a girl who goes back on her words, so for a week, she was his own personal slave. She did whatever he told her to do, and said all the things he wanted her to say. It wasn't so bad. Sort of. Humiliating, maybe, but was it worth it? Definitely. One thing led to another and they started sleeping together. And soon, they were just more than each other's booty call.
Her fairytale ending was even more perfect when she was pregnant and got engaged. Life couldn't possibly have been any better than that. She was pregnant in her junior year, carrying Kaydn's child in her stomach. That same year, he manged to convince her to drop out of school and move into an apartment with him. She was so naive, then. But she was a love struck teenager, whom believed that Kaydn was her Prince, and this was her happily ever after. Until things started to turn sour. The high school drop out was constantly being abused by the love of her life. Whether it was physical, sexual, verbal, or emotional, he was still inflicting pain on her no matter what. He was violent. No, that was an understatement. He seemed to always be furious with her. She wasn't sure what she had done wrong- or if she did anything wrong in the first place, but Kaydn never seemed to need a reason to do anything.
If that wasn't bad enough, she got framed for drug possessions, and had been arrested for a couple of days. By the time she had gotten back home, everything that belonged to her child and Kaydn had been all gone. She expected a note telling her to meet him somewhere. That this was a surprise trip to somewhere in the world. She was finally able to go out in public and actually be a family. However, there was no note. She was left with nothing but memories. The house was so empty and spotless, it was as if neither Kyler nor Kaydn had existed in her life. It was like they were just a figment of her own imagination, but it couldn't have been. She had scars to prove that she had been abused. Determined, she had got a a modelling job, and did a couple of advertisements and runway shows before she was sure she had enough money to find her son.
She had no idea where to start, but she knew she had to tell her family just to make sure she really wasn't dreaming. After their confirmation, she had told them that she'd be going to find her son. They had been really supportive of her, and wished her the best of luck. She started with New York because it would have been the busiest and hardest place to search for someone. She traveled from the west coast to the east coast, and just when she's seemed to lost all hope, reality comes into knock her down with financial problems. So she made a pit stop here, and while she was at it, she could visit her relatives- especially the twins that she haven't seen in a while. She was ready to give up, until she overheard some girls talk about a party thrown by Kaydn at Starbucks the other day. There could be a billion Kaydn's for all she knew, but she had to give it a shot. So she decided to ask for the address to the party.
This was her chance. The moment of truth. A matter of life or death. Alright, okay, it wasn't a matter of life or death, but it was close. If she left her apartment now, she would make it before people started to pile into the house for the party. See, there were the early arrivers whom shows up way too early before the party's supposed to start. They're usually the boring people who are just there to check out the place and grab some free food. Then there are the right on time people , and then the in betweens. Then there are the fashionably late cool people, and then there are the wannabes who arrive even later than the cool people. So if she took her car and drove fairly fast, she could make it there to see if it was the Kaydn she knew and talk to him before the early arrivers came. She had to find out. So why couldn't she stop staring at the paper and get off the couch?
She inhaled a deep breath. She could do this. Of course she could. It was just Kaydn. For all she knew, it was just a coincidence. A cruel joke God decided to play on her. She held in the breath for a good ten seconds before her nerves finally calming down. Yeah. There was a very good chance that this was not Kaydn Gray George. And an even greater chance that this Kaydn did not have a three year old child named Kyler Alexander-Gray George. Staying positive with those thoughts, she got off her pretty little butt, grabbed her car keys, locked up the door behind her and hopped in her car. She started her ignition, her fingers gripping tightly onto the steering while, her knuckles white from all the pressure she was putting on the leather cased steering wheel. Taking another deep breath, she drove off to where this so called Kaydn lived.
She parked off to the side, her blue eyes glued to the beautiful house before her. The kind of house that Kaydn's father would buy. "No no. This is just another coincidence." She said, trying to convince herself. She got out, grabbing her white Coach bag with her. Her heels clicked against the cement with each tentative step she took. The sound stopped, reaching the front doors. She raised her skinny fingers up to the doorbell, hesitating. This was a bad idea. A very bad idea. It wasn't too late to turn back. She could just go back into her car and drive away, and pretend this never happened. Although, she knew she would regret not ringing the doorbell later on. She missed her son, didn't she? Of course she did. Every second of every day. She still loved Kaydn, didn't she? Well, she did. Why wouldn't she? He was the father of her child. He loved her..... didn't he? Without waiting for her heart to answer, her finger pressed down on the door bell. This was it. Nathalia Gemma-Claire Scott was finally going to prove to herself that there was nothing to be afraid of.

Kaydn lit another cigarette and slid open the glass door that led out to the deck that overlooked the lake. He inhaled deeply and flicked the ashes into an ash tray that was lying on the table nearby. It was a stormy day, but he'd planned to go ahead with the small party he'd planned for tonight. The alcohol was already in the bar in the den, and everything was set. He'd been busy cleaning and talking to his father on and off all day, working on their next business venture.
Kaydn finished his cigarette and pushed the end down into the ashtray. He turned back to look through the glass into the living room where his three year old played contently. "Kyler." Kaydn called loudly, catching the small child's attention as he walked back into the house and grabbed a small sippy cup off the table and held it down as the toddler pushed himself up and waddled clumsily over to grab the cup, only to fall backward onto his ass as soon as he grabbed it, not that it bothered the child. He was perfectly content to sit on his ass and stare up at his father with big blue eyes.
Kaydn smiled slightly and walked over to the couch, collapsing quickly and running his hands over his eyes and through his hair before turning his attention to the rain that started to fall outside and the lightning hit the lake. While Kaydn had grown accustomed to his parent's manor in LA, he had to admit that he was quite fond of it here. The house was mostly done in shades of brown and the living room had a full wall of glass doors that looked out over the lake. It was quite peaceful, and definitely not as hectic as LA. Kyler enjoyed the open space that the house offered.
Kaydn was quite zoned out when he heard the babble of the three year old at his feet, trying helplessly to crawl up into his lap with his sippy cup, binky, and toy elephant all in his arms. Kaydn reached down and picked the small child up easily, dropping him into his lap. "Daddy, daddy, ollie, binky." He murmured quietly through giggles as he chewed on the binky aimlessly watching the rain like his father. Kaydn hated the fact that the child existed, but he loved the child at the same time. He hated Nathalia for getting pregnant, trying to ruin his reputation and relationship with his father.
"Ollie, Ollie, Ollie," the toddler whined as he held up the small toy elephant to Kaydn. He took it from the child and laid it aside. The toddler then stood up in his lap and hugged his neck tightly, starting to doze, quietly murmuring the few words that the small child knew. Kaydn had been trying to teach the child to talk, but the kid just wasn't picking it up. He'd wondered if something was wrong with Kyler, but after research and hearing from some of his acquaintances with children he had just figured Kyler was a slow learner.
The doorbell rang, startling the child from his doze, and Kaydn stood up. "Ollie, binky!" The toddler whined as Kaydn started to leave the elephant and binky behind on the couch, but Kaydn turned back to grab them, placing the small yellow binky in his son's mouth and handing him the elephant before Kyler wrapped his arms back around his neck. So without time to go put on a t-shirt, Kaydn made his way across the room in a pair of baggy grey sweats and the toddler hanging around his neck, napping to answer the door.
He pulled it open quickly, trying not to disturb the three year old, but was shocked at what he saw. What the fuck was he paying those damn private investigators for anyway if they couldn't give him a damn heads up? "I'm obviously going to have to fucking fire someone," he cursed as he looked Nathalia up and down.

The twenty year old's finger immediately pulled away from the doorbell as if it had been shocked. She was suddenly very aware of what she had done, and she regretted it. This was a bad idea and the blonde girl knew. While she was praying over and over again that she had gotten the wrong person that would soon be on the other side of the door, her guts was telling her otherwise. That the person residing in this beautiful home was the one person whom made her happy and extremely hurt at the same time. He made her heart beat fast with excitement and nervousness, but it also made her heart beat fast with fear and anxiety. He made her feel all these unexplainable feelings that she was sure wasn't normal. She loved every moment she spent with him, but at the same time, she dreaded every minute he kept her. Was this what people called love? She always heard it was complicated and difficult, so was this what they were talking about?
Nathalia wouldn't know. She's only ever been in love with Kaydn- if you could even call it love. She wasn't entirely sure what, exactly, she felt towards Kaydn. He made her feel special and important, but he also degraded and hit her like no tomorrow. Was love supposed to be like this? If it was, how did these girls deal with something like this? Rather, is there any possible way to cope with this and not feel like crap 24/7 because the love of your life abused you like you were just a mere rag doll? She believed that Kaydn was the love of her life, and she expected him to treat her right- especially when it came to Kyler. Surely, she did something wrong to make him so frustrated with her. But the problem was, what did she actually do to make him so angry with her that he'd use her over and over again. He treated her like she was just some toy he could play with. She was just another piece of object he could play with when he was bored and not care if it was scratched or broken.
When she was of no interest anymore, he just hung her on the wall with the other toys. Reminders of past joy, but easily broken and boring. Was this what she was? Broken? She wrapped her arms over her flat stomach, not sure if it was from the cold or if she was trying to hold down whatever she was about to upchuck. She looked down at her outfit and then at the weather. Honestly, she had not thought the weather would turn so sourly. Well there was nothing she could do about it now. It was already raining, and the closest thing to a jacket was the grey wrap coat. She shivered against the cold breeze, trying to keep her teeth from chattering. She pulled the wrap closer against her body, hands holding onto her elbows, keeping herself warm. She rubbed her upper arm, causing some friction, unconsciously slipping back into her thoughts. She seemed to do this often since she's been here. Not just about Kaydn, but just thinking about anything and everything, generally.
She often found herself thinking about Kyler, constantly wondering what he looked like. Would he recognize her? Probably not, it has been a while, and he was still young, so he would not have remembered her, and that thought alone was enough to break her heart a little more. She missed Kyler so much that her whole body hurt without the presence of her child in her arms. She missed cradling the small child in her arms as he pulled her dirty blonde hair between his fingers, tugging. It felt like a lifetime since she's last seen him. The image of her baby boy was slowly slipping from her mind, and all she could make out was just a blurry face with eyes mixed between her and Kaydn's. The memory of his laughter was so distant, she was sure she had imagined it- that he was just a figment of her imagination. Another puzzle piece waiting to be fitted into place.
She must have done something horrible in her past life to be deserving this. This was God's way of telling her that karma is a bitch- as if Nathalia didn't know that already. However, she'd love to know just what she did wrong to have to suffer such a cruel fate. To be treated so poorly by someone. To cry herself to sleep every night, heart broken. Was she really that awful? Was she being punished for something she had done? She wasn't sure, but she'd love to know to have a better understanding. Her right hand reached up and played with the heart shaped necklace that was hanging around her. She had gotten it as a gift for her sixteenth birthday, and she's never taken it off since it was first wrapped around her. She wasn't sure why, but she felt that if she ever unclasped the chain, her life would suddenly shatter- not that it wasn't shattered enough already.
She felt sick to her stomach, and she was sure she was going to throw up, but nothing came out. She just heaved in silence, her heart pounding a million miles a minute, nervous. She stared at the door intently as if she could see through it, get a sneak preview of the residents. Like maybe she could bolt if it really was the Kaydn she was once engaged to. She was sure they were broken up given the distance and the disappearance, but she still had the engagement ring on her finger. She often took it off, not wanting to have anything to do with it, but in the end, she would put it back on. She didn't have it in her to let go the two people she loved. Her family. She bit her lower lip nervously, hearing shuffled footsteps before the door swung open. Standing there in his six foot glory, was Kaydn Gray George, sweat pants hanging loose around his waist, her three year old baby boy attached to his naked body.
There he was. The love of her life. With her child. She felt like someone was digging their nails into her heart, squeezing it. She couldn't even begin to describe the pain, nor did she have the words to. She just stood there, frozen, her hands falling to her side, just staring at the two people in front of her blue eyes. Her Kyler. Her sweet sweet Kyler. And at that moment, she was positive she was going to cry, but the tears would not fall. No, Nathalia didn't want them to fall, more like. She couldn't show weakness in front of Kaydn. Not again. You only make that mistake once. She wasn't that girl anymore. She wasn't that naive girl that did what she was told and let herself get hurt. But she was still a chameleon. She could blend in anywhere and everywhere and go unnoticed. She wasn't anyone special. She didn't feel special. It was easy for her to hide, merging with a crowd.
But when she had been with Kaydn, she stood out, shining brightly like the Northern star. Except, she wasn't his anymore. He wouldn't want her. "Kaydn." She said as if she were out of breath, when the truth was, she could barely breathe. She plastered a small smile on her face, tilting her chin a little higher. She needed to be strong. "Do you have a minute?" She asked him, looking inside the house. She wasn't surprised to see the interior design- it wasn't too far off from his old one. Modern, large, spacious, exquisite. She wouldn't have expected any less from a family like his. "Can I come in?" She asked him, her gaze finally landing on his eyes. She sucked in a breath, feeling like she had the wind knocked out from her. And just like that, her breathing seemed to stop. She felt woozy from the lack of oxygen, and she had to mentally remind herself to breathe. "I want to talk." She said, although she had no idea what she had to say.

Kaydn stood and stared at Nathalia as she spoke. He hadn't seen her in a few months, but she looked the same. Thin, pretty, dressed to impress. She was nothing, but she'd always tried to be someone. Kaydn had made her into the princess that everyone thought she was in high school. He'd never known why she was so happy with being a no one, but he'd always somewhat admired it of her. He could never be happy without people around, his father's approval, or the lifestyle he had grown up so accustomed to.
The toddler stirred in his arms and sat back, wide awake again. "Yeah, come in." He mumbled to her as he stepped back and let her walk into the living room. The bitch had nerve showing up here after she'd almost ruined his reputation; he could never tell his father what had really happened, who had really happened. The small child sat back and smiled at Kaydn, his three teeth all spaced out as the binky fell to the floor. "Daddy, daddy, daddy, girl." He said pointing to Nathalia. Being a single dad had been hard, even though he had often passes Kyler off to nanny after nanny after nanny to avoid having to keep the child entertained during work calls, meetings, and webchats with his father.
The small boy wiggled until Kaydn went to put him down, to which he whined and rejected by grabbing back up to his shoulders. "Kyler." Kaydn said, frustrated with the child's whiny behavior. He looked back over at Nathalia. "What?" He asked, wondering what exactly she had to say to him. He knew she had to be mad that he had sent her to jail and taken Kyler away, but she should have seen it coming. The bitch shouldn't have gotten pregnant. He could've lost everything, been cutoff from the family business, his parents, and the city that made him who he was.
Kaydn loved Nat, he really did. There was just no way to get around the fact that she got pregnant too young, she almost cost him everything, and there was no way to tell his father without being shunned. That and she made him so angry with the trait that he also admired. Nathalia was always happy-go-lucky, nothing got her down, and she always bounced back with a good attitude. He beat her mercilessly, but she never left. She never once even tried or asked to. He felt bad for hurting her in a way, but the way he looked at it she deserved it just for putting his life at risk.
Kaydn sat on the couch and pushed his hair back as the toddler played with the small elephant, walking it up and down his bare chest. "Ollie." Kaydn said to the kid, making him giggle and hold up the toy happily. "Can you say Nathalia?" He asked, smiling at Kyler. He wondered if Nathalia felt bad that she'd missed Kyler's first steps, first words, first tooth, first everything pretty much. He felt a little bad for taking that right away from her, but it was too late for guilt now. "Nanananan." The toddler cooed, trying to say her name, but failing miserably. Kaydn shrugged as Kyler mumbled at the elephant before crawling down and running across the room to the window as the lightning flashed. He giggled and bounced up and down in his little nikes at the flashing light. "Bink bink." He whined, turning around quickly. Kaydn pointed back behind the couch toward the door and Kyler ran over and picked up the binky before running back and sitting in the floor in front of Nathalia, holding up the small elephant repeating. "Ollie, Ollie, Ollie."
Kaydn leaned back on the couch and sighed, it'd been a long day with the energetic baby, and all he really wanted was for himself and Kyler to take a nice long nap, but first his curiosity was driving him insane. Normally he would've thrown Nat out on her ass, but for her to be this brave she must have something good to say because Kay knew for damn sure that she knew he'd hurt her for wasting his time.
Kaydn used to be a sweet guy, cocky but sweet. He used to speak on his schools anti-violence club rallies, and kick guy's asses for even threatening a girl. He didn't know what had changed in him. Some evil had taken hold. Maybe it was the fear that one cute little blonde was all it took to take away everything he knew, the fact that Nathalia could bring his world crashing down. What was he without his name, his money, his home, his father? He was a no one. Kaydn George would not be a no one. He refused. He would become his own person in his father's footsteps. He shivered just thinking about it.
Kaydn had once had a plan, a series of goals that he would not stray from. Nathalia, of course, had thrown a wrench into that plan, but he was slowly getting back to it even if it wasn't exactly how he'd planned. He was to finish high school; he got a GED. He was going to college where he would get a business degree and start work in LA with his father; he was working on his masters in business here in Jersey all online, and working for his father's company from home. He put his hands behind his head and watched Nat closely as Kyler babbled at her feet.
"His juice is on the table behind you." Kaydn murmured uselessly, pointing back behind her. He figured Kyler would be whining for it soon anyway.
