Olivia slammed her car door shut, as she left the stupid art gallery where she tried to submit her stupid artwork. Apparently, she didn’t make the cut. And you know what they say about hell hath no fury like a woman scorn, and boy was she scorned. She drove the entire ride home in silence, smoking like there was no tomorrow as if it was going to calm her down. By the time she got home she was no longer on a murderous rampage, and more on a unstoppable rage. She was not very quiet about her arrival, slamming every door as she got herself and all of her “art” out of her car and into the backyard and threw everything into a pile. The blonde stormed inside the house and just started taking things down, all the pieces she had been working for today, and all her pieces in general, were taken outside and put into various piles. Maybe those critics would find her art beautiful if she turned them into lovely embers. First it would be the “art” then it would be the supplies, she never once stopped to thing that this would be a bad idea. And she also didn’t care if she was being too loud, the worst thing that could happen was that the neighbors could call the cops, like that hasn’t happen before. Olivia figured that the paint on the canvases would be a good enough accelerant; she lit another cigarette and walked over to her first pile, the rejected pieces. The young Darling had been creating non-stop for the past few weeks, so this was going to take a while.

Today had been a really retarded day for Jason. There was no other way that he could sum it up other than saying that it was "retarded" no matter how unpolitically correct that may have been. He had left the house a bit late to head into the city for class, however part way into town to catch the subway (his mom was driving him!) he had realized he had forgetting an important assignment at home, so after much pestering and a bit of a fight he managed to get the older woman to drive him back home.Needless to say, he was way later than he had anticipated, missed the subway. That wasn't all though. It was after paying for a day pass that he realized that he had forgot a textbook at home, today was just not his day that was for sure, so Jason gave up. If this happened so many times it had to have been a sign that he wasn't supposed to go in today! Though of course, if Aubreen asked, he'd tell her he went, that meant finding something to do to pass the time until around eleven at night when it was safe for him to go home, and well, you know, when his mother would be done work to drive him back home after a long day at "school".
The young man started off by heading into the local diner and getting himself something to eat, his original plan was to go to Subway considering how much he loved it and all, but it wouldn't help him pas as much time as he would have liked which was why he had gone to the diner. After a full belly he began to wander around town, walking up and down the streets with his hands tucked into his pockets, though it wasn't long until he saw some billowing smoke coming from a rather familiar place; Olivia's house. He felt a sense of panic move through his body as he picked up his pace a bit and walked around into the backyard sort of expecting the worst here. You can only imagine how much more relaxed he felt when Jason realized that her house wasn't burning down! However, it was still a bit of a sight that made him worry. What was Olivia doing? He didn't quite understand. "Olivia?" he started, arching an eyebrow slightly as he tried to figure out just what on earth she was doing. "What are you doing? Obviously, he was unable to figure it out.
NOTES lol god. this post got a bit long for a mini thread!

It didn't take long for Olivia to flick her cigarette onto the stack of wasted time. And she was correct, it didn't take long for the first painting to start burning. She felt that one fire at a time was enough, didn't want the house to catch on fire, it was really all she had left. It was the only thing that kept her best friend around her. This entire situation had all of the blondes confidence shaken. Sure this was only the first time she was rejected, but how many more chances was she really going to be able to get? She was just another young artist with no formal education, who only reluctantly goes to school, with dreams of making it big in the city. Her life was a page out of a MTV show. It actually made her sick thinking about, all this time she was trying to be different when in reality she was just as generic as they come.
Olivia was so deep in her thoughts, she didn't hear her friend enter the back yard, so when he called her name, it startled her and brought her out of her thoughts. She gave him a quick glance, then focused her eyes back on the fire. "I'm making art." she answered in a monotone voice, "What does it look like?" she asked a bit annoyed, she was trying to wallow in self loathing and pity. And she couldn't do that with someone questioning her actions. Speaking of questionable actions, what was Jason doing here anyways? He has a life, people who depend on him, and he was generally a busy person, so why was he here? "What are you doing here?" she asked, her voice going back to monotone.

Making art. Jason could't help but roll his eyes a little bit at her response, it was always all these artsy types that seemed to have these insane answers. Not that he should really be judging or anything. Most of the time this young man most likely could have been lumped into that whole group of pained, crazy artist himself. Being complete with a therapist and all didn't exactly help his case out much either. Oh Jason. What a glamorous life he lived. "What does it look like?" he repeated her question with a bit of a shrug, "It looks like you're burning shit that shouldn't be burned."
What was he doing here? Well that was an awkward question if he said so himself, but it was also a fair and good one. Now to think up an answer where he didn't sound too insane was the problem. "I don't know," Jason murmured, shifting his feet in the snow a bit, it wasn't too cold out today which was a bit strange if you thought about it considering the time of the year, though he did have the orange flames of whatever being burnt helping warm him up as well. Still, I don't know wasn't the best answer. Sighing a bit, he just gave in and gave the typical dad answer, having children in your life seemed to do that to guy. "I was walking around and saw the smoke," he explained, "I was worried and came over."

Olivia crossed her arms across her chest, she knew it was cold out, but in the heat of carrying everything out, her jacket came off. The anger at herself had been keeping her warm, and now the only thing that was warming her was her newest piece of art, the fire. But the blonde knew she shouldn't stand too close, the paint fumes might alter her brain even more then she already has. "Well it's trash, and what better way to get rid of trash then to burn it? she replied. Olivia couldn't look at the fire anymore, it was making her sick. She turned her body away, having her back to the fire while she took out her pack of cigarettes. She would have to go back inside to get another pack soon, with all this chain smoking she was doing, she was almost out.
Olivia let out a bitter chuckle, "Well you picked a hell of a time to visit then." She walked over towards him, stopping short a few feet, she didn't want him to see how weak she looked. All this self loathing was finally getting to the blonde. Hearing the real reason he was here put a little smirk on her face. "Aw, dear that's so sweet." She glanced back at the fire, it was almost time to start the second one. And as much as she loved hanging out with Jason, now was not really the best time for her. "As you can see, I have everything under control, so I'm sure you have something better to do then sit around here." she said in the nicest tone she could muster. Hoping he'd take the hint.

Jason certainly could have his moments where he was slow and did not understand what another person was getting at what so ever. He could be really quite clueless some of the time, however now was not one of those times. He could tell by the way Olivia was speaking to him that she was wishing for him to leave. Jason could tell by her body action that she wanted him to leave, but when it came down to it, he just didn't want to leave. Plus, it seemed so out of character for the female to be burning her artwork. Everyone had their passions and art just so happened to be Olivia's, needless to say, all of this was a bit worrying to him. And when she called it trash? Well, that was a giant sign. Jason made a bit of a face, shaking his head to almost protest if you will what she was saying. "It's not trash, Olivia…" he mumbled not sure if his word would even do much for her but it was always worth a try. "I don't think you need to burn anything. I happen to like your stuff. One man's trash is another man's treasure?" You had to give him a break here, at least he was trying.
He was certainly picking up what she was throwing down in the sense that Olivia had wanted Jason to leave, but he wasn't going to just go for that. He was staying put, digging his feet into the snow a bit as if that would keep him well planted where he was. And then she called him dear! God, it was like she was mocking him or something, he was just trying to help, was that really so bad? However, he choose not to comment on it, shrugging his shoulders a bit at the comment. May as well just let it go than turn it into a big thing. "Nah, I don't feel like leaving," Jason stated simply now fishing into his pockets, until he eventually pulled out a little plastic bag. Oh his joints. Where he would be without these he did not know. The young man really was a bit more of a stoner than he let on. "Would you like to join me?" he questioned pulling a joint out of the bag, "Then we can talk about what you are doing right now."

There was a reason Olivia kept most of her emotions bottled up, they were annoying and exhausting. And it wasn't like she could sleep the troubles away, her insomnia made sure of that. So that left her awake, tired, and miserable. "Oh yes Jason, yes it it is." she snapped back, coming off more bitchy then she wanted to. The blonde knew he was only trying to help, but she couldn't help how the bitter mood got to her. "Fine, if you like them so much, you can take the rest." she motioned towards all the piles, and placed her hands on her hips.
She sighed as he continued to stand in his spot. He wasn't making it easy for her to be alone and angry at herself. Today was such a bust. Calling it a bust wasn't even breaking the surface of the hell that was today. Olivia was one straw away from a breakdown. She could feel it in her gut, everything was jsut swirling around in her stomach, ready to blow, and embarrass her. "Well," she started, trying to sound calm. "Now's not exactly the best time. I've had a shitty day." She arched a blonde eyebrow as the male dug through his pockets. When he pulled out a joint, her eye kind of widened. Of all people to pull out a joint, but after today, nothing should surprise her anymore. "Drugs? Really? Drugs are the things that made me like this! Half of my inspiration came from drugs. That, and not sleeping, but that's a whole other thing." Okay, now she felt bad. Olivia knew he was only trying to help, but Jason should know not to talk to her when she's in a bad mood. And once she started being a bitch, it was hard to stop. She hoped that he would accept her apology when she snapped out of this funk.

Olivia should really consider herself lucky here, on most occasions it didn't take Jason much time to snap, though he liked to think that he was improving these days at keeping his cool. Probably had to do with the combination of his medication and talking to a therapist, oh and maybe the increased pot smoking. Not that he really let anyone on that he was smoking more than her previously had. Jason really was becoming more and more like his father every day. Olivia was also lucky in the sense that Jason liked to think that he was quite used to females being bitchy. I mean, growing up with three sisters would tend to do that to a guy, then you can't forget to add his mother into the equation of all of this, oh and his wife. Really, when it came down to it, the young man came to the final decision thinking that the other girl in front of him must have been PMSing. That was the only good way to explain everything that was happening! Oh women.
"Oh come on, Olivia," he finally stated, lighting up, even though she seemed to be protesting agains it, "Acting like a massive bitch about whatever is going on isn't going to help you out." The king of tough love. Okay, that sounded way too cheesy, so not actually, but right in this moment it seemed like a very good time for some tough love. Maybe it would set the female straight. "You can keep on bitching and sitting around in your anger, but that's really not going to get you anywhere. Or you can just talk to me and tell me what's going on. The latter is really the best decision. Just so you know."

Olivia felt crazy. And not just regular Darling crazy, she felt hopeless –I just want to stick my head in the oven- mixed with -get in my car drive through the mall and see how many points I can rack up- crazy. She dug her nails into her hips, perturbed that nothing today was going her way. To think that she spent the beginning of her day excited and hopeful, it was just her luck the day took a complete 360. She sighed again, feeling the bottle filled with emotion inside her bubble up, ready to explode. It was like someone just shook it up as it was soda bottle, and they wanted to play some prank.
”Well, acting like a massive bitch was not exactly my plan for today.” she huffed. ”It was just my plan to get you to leave.” the blonde stated. Olivia brought her hand to her head and started to rub her temples, everything was just becoming frustrating. She gave him a weak ‘who do you think you’re talking to’ look as he spoke. She turned around, and walked closer to her burning dreams. ”I took some of my work to a gallery,” she finally said, staring into the fire. ”And obviously, it didn’t go to well.” The young Darling shifted her gaze from the dying flames, to the melting snow. She turned back around to face Jason, but kept her distance. ”And yeah I know it’s not the end of the world just because I was rejected once. But you of all people should know how hard it is to make it in New York. Most people would kill for one chance. Most people don’t get another chance to impress some big bad art critic. It just proves what everyone says about me is true.”

"You can't just give up," he stated, and maybe it did make him a bit of a hypocrite. He gave up on trying to finish high school…but then again he did go on to get his GED so to be honest, Jason wasn't sure what this made him, but that wasn't the point right now. this wasn't about himself, this was about Olivia. A girl who was clearly having some personal issues going on at the moment, but who didn't have personal issues from time to time? Life was hard. There was no denying that. "People don't just hit over night success. Whoever told you that things just happen for you and you get lucky is so full of shit." Jason was just beginning to hit the tip of the ice berg with that thought.
His eyes moved from Olivia's frame to move to look at the smouldering paintings, maybe it wasn't something that shouldn't have been admired, but there was something about fire that was always so captivating. Watching the orange and yellow flame bounce up and down in the wind, growing tall before falling back down again. It was no wonder so many young kids ended up accidentally lighting their houses on fire. "Getting anywhere in life, reaching your goals, it takes a lot of hard work. Where do you think we would be if after the first prototype Thomas Edison gave up on trying to make the light bulb if it didn't work? Where would we be if someone didn't stand up and say that men and women should have equal rights and they gave up after it didn't work right away? Or equal rights for blacks and whites. These things don't just happen over night. You have to work, you have to bust your ass to get anywhere. And doing this-burning your paintings-just giving up, isn't going to do it Olivia." This is what was called tough love. "I thought you were better than all of this."

"And why not? I should just go to college and work some white collar job just like the man wanted me too." she said softly, wringing her hands together. "I know that!" she said angrily. Oh how she knew that. Olivia knew lots of people in the city barely getting by, while holding onto the their dream of making it big in the art industry. But the blonde always assumed for some reason that she had something they didn't, it was the confidence that made her think that her dreams of all people could come true. But now she was knocked back down to reality. Now, she was just like everyone else. "I'm not some kid who thinks anything can happen if I just believe hard enough. I am not lucky. I am not talented. I am just like everyone else. I might as well slap an apron on, and practice how to make martinis for when my husband get home."
Olivia gave Jason's rant a dark chuckle. "I guess I would burning all that crap inside to navigate myself around the house." the girl said in a voice she didn't recognise. "And I'd live in a world where women and people of different races are treated less equal from white men. Oh wait, I pretty much already do." the blonde took a deep breath. To be honest, she thought she was better then this too. But then again deep down, she knew she was nothing special, and average Jane. "Obliviously I'm not. I'm just another little tart with the dream of making it big, in a world I couldn't possibly compete in." Suddenly, her face started to become colder, and her breathing pattern was different. And that was it, the last straw, Olivia Darling started crying.

To be honest here, Jason was beginning to grow frustrated with this conversation. Olivia was sitting there talking like she was some sort of insane person and she should really consider herself lucky that he didn't hit girls because he was so, so tempted to walk over there and give her a swift slap in the face and tell her to get it together. There was more to life than just art and the government and whatever she had against it. Jason himself didn't quite understand it, but that was a matter for another time.
He brought the burning spliff up to his lips, taking a long drag, shaking his head as he looked at the female. He wanted to leave, nothing he said seemed to be getting his point across and the young man was beginning to grow frustrated with the whole situation. Then suddenly Olivia started to cry. Well that was an unexpected turn! "Don't cry," he stated, moving over to her side and putting an arm around her slender frame, trying to comfort her. Comforting people seemed to be something he had been doing quite a bit of frequently, it was sort of strange to be honest. Jason wasn't sure when he suddenly became that great with noticing how people were feeling and whatever, but there he was. "Every thing is going to be okay, Olivia, you don't need to cry. But it's okay to…let it all out if you have to."

Olivia finally felt the cold air all throughout her body and it caused her to shiver. She wrapped her arms around her thin frame to attempt take some of the chills away. Not that she expected it to work, but it didn't hurt to try. She thought about moving towards the fire to warm up a bit, but thought that it wouldn't benefit her in the long run, she was already going to have lung problems, and she didn't need to speed up that process. Though that would put her out of her self inflicted misery, maybe that's how they put dogs down, and she could go down like the bitch she was.
Oh god, she couldn't believe she was actually crying! The blonde couldn't even remembered the last time she cried. She hoped her make-up wasn't running, that would be even more embarrassing. "Believe me, I don't want to." she mumbled. When Jason put his arm around her, she felt how much warmer he was. Maybe because he was a warming person in general, Olivia knew she was a cold person, but it was easier to deal with people that way, especially her family. Like the Darlings were an actual family. "I don't know, things just have been just the pits for me lately." she sighed, and wondered if things could get any worse.

Jason almost wanted to laugh right now, not that the situation itself was actually funny, it was just the fact that whenever someone seemed to have a problem they seemed to find their way into his arms. Even if he was probably one of the most fucked up people they possibly could have gone to. But misery loves company, that's what they always seemed to say. Not that Jason was exactly miserable, but that's a topic for a different time!
The male brought the burning split up to his lips taking a rather long hit before letting the smoke pass out from between his lips. Of course he was cautious about the whole thing to not blow it into the blonde's face, that was just inconsiderate and rude! He licked his lips and rubbed at Olivia's lower back softly, an action that was supposed to be comforting, he could only hope that it was working. "It's okay," he commented nodding his head a bit, "things are bound to get better eventually." Weren't they? Even though Jason was saying that he was entirely sure if that was actually the truth or not. He just had to hope that it was the truth and that eventually things would have to shape up!
He shifted most of his weight from his right foot to his left one, looking at the female for a few moments before asking "Do you want to go inside and talk about it?" The yon man was certainly hoping that the answer to that would be a yes, it was starting to grow chilly outside and it could serve as a distraction to Olivia. A distraction from burning all of her canvas that she spent so much time on, or so he assumed.

Olivia sighed as she wiped the incoming tears out of her eyes. The sigh came out sadder then she would of wanted, but sad was pretty much the emotion her body was set on. Though, not that she would admit this, crying was making her feel a bit better. It was probably because all her feelings were no longer raging a hurricane inside her head. Which was good, but this whole crying business was still embarrassing. If she was by herself, she probably feel the same way since the walls most likely have ears. At least it wasn't Estelle who was trying to make her feel better, because she would become very invested in the situation, and Olivia would have to leave.
Although she was upset, she couldn't help but to roll her eyes at Jason's cheesy attempt to cheer her up, everything will get better? But at least he wasn't standing around like some awkward Alex, or made up some excuse to finally leave. That would of made the blonde feel worse. "Yeah, probably." Olivia said trying to make herself sound believable. Things had started looking up since she moved to Ridgewood a year ago, maybe the young Darlings life was like the stock market, it randomly went up and down, and soon it would shoot up into the black for a little bit, before it dropped back in the red. "Maybe I should go to a fortune teller to get a second opinion though." she said before the tears started rolling down a little harder. She buried her face into her hands to try hide from the world, and the cold.
Olivia pretty much ripped herself out of Jason's arms to get at his idea to go inside. The rest of the paintings could wait until he left she thought, since he probably wouldn't let her get close to another pile to set it aflame. "Great idea." she said half way to the door. The blonde found the back door, and led Jason inside the dark, quiet house. Turning on a few lights before leading them into the kitchen, since it was one of the rooms that had the most seating, and she didn't think he wanted to go sit in the tent in the living room. Taking a deep breath, and wiping her cheeks, she turned to look at him "You still want to split that?" she asked sniffing a bit.
